Free Tutoring for Adults

Placentia Library District provides one-to-one tutoring for adults who want to improve their basic English skills. Tutoring sessions focus on achieving the learner’s personal goals through reading, writing, speaking, and listening practice. Tutoring is offered at flexible days and times that work for you.  

Become a Learner

Placentia Library's free literacy instruction is open to adults 18 years or older who want to improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in order to achieve personal literacy goals such as:  

  • Learn how to use a computer, tablet, or phone
  • Read a book or newspaper  
  • Help  a child with homework
  • Get a job or get a better job
  • Obtain a high school equivalency certificate  

Adult literacy tutoring can also be a stepping stone to other educational opportunities, such as a community college course, GED testing, or U.S. citizenship.

Become a Tutor

Would you like to give back to your community? Volunteer to help an adult learner improve their basic English skills to achieve their personal or professional goals.   

  • No teaching experience necessary 
  • Training, ongoing support, and materials provided 
  • Flexible scheduling available

Citizenship Classes

History Room

Prepare for the U.S. Citizenship test and interview with our weekly Citizenship class. Learn about American history and government while practicing the questions and skills you’ll need to feel confident on test and interview day.

Community Meeting Room

The Read, Write, Speak Club provides an opportunity to chat with other English language learners in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Learn new vocabulary, improve reading and writing, and sharpen your pronunciation skills.
